What type of shortwave radio was used in the Australian Outback in the 1950′s?
I am writing a fiction novel. The radio would have been used from a sheep station to communicate with the Flying Doctor Service or School of the Air.
Hi there
There was a few brands of radios that were used , but in that time probably the most common sets used were made by Traeger Transceivers Ltd, Australia.
The radios used in the 50′s were large tabletop tube radios.
The RFDS started in the early 30′s but the school of the air didn’t begin until the 50′s , starting from Alice Springs.
It didn’t kick off officially until the mid 50′s.
My wife used to work at the RFDS base in Kalgoorlie W.A.
