Electronics: What is difference between INPUT and OUTPUT resistance.?
I know input resistance is resistance looking into the input, and output resistance is resistance looking into the output. But what are the reasons to have very high/low input/out impedance? from the basic circuits ive learn, it seems to only be concerned with the input resistance. can you give me some examples of how to implement input/output resistance because im pretty confuse with the whole concept of it. im studying BJT and FET amplifiers (CC, CE, CB, CD, CG, CS) right now.

Impedance is a little different than resistance (unless you are only working with resistances, and no inductance or capacitance), to keep it simple I will only consider resistances. In general, you want the input resistance to be as high as possible, because the higher it is the less it will load down the source of the input and the less the signal from the source will be distorted from how it is with no load; i.e., the less it will change its characteristics that are tested or observed when the source is not connected to anything.
You want the output resistance to be as low as possible, because the lower the output resistance is then the more power it can supply the load and the less its output will change if the load should become greater.
BJTs use an input current to control its operation (usually the higher CE or EC current; the ratio between the two is the Beta) and FETs use an input voltage field to control the DS current, (the ratio between the voltage and controlled current is called transconductance) and draw very low (almost none) input current. As a result, FETs can have a very high input resistance, since they pull almost no current from the source, but BJTs have a significant current draw which can distort the waveform comming out of the source, especially if it has a high output resistance. I hope this explains a little.
