How to beef up my cb radio cobra 25 ltd?
I’m new to cb radio, but my grandfather gave me a cobra 25ltd unit just by itself. I want to be able to talk on it,be heard, and have some decent power so I won’t be walked all over. Can someone fwd me to the right direction on what to get,such as linear amp and antenna. Thanks a lot.
King Delta zero Alpha Foxtrot King has pretty much said it. The use of directional antennas and amplification on the Citizen’s Band is illegal.
The penalties for violation include a $10,000 fine and confiscation of the equipment.
If you are interested in amateur radio, there are a lot of resources you can get. The fee for taking the exam is $14.00 now, there is no fee for the license itself. In other words, you will have to pay to take the test, but when you pass, the FCC will not charge you a fee for the license, and when you renew, there will be no charge.
I’ll attach a couple of links here, that may give you some encouragement with pursuing a hobby I’ve been involved in since 1968.
The first is a very well done webpage put together by the American Radio Relay League, and the second is a press release sent out by the League in preparation for this weekend’s Field Day, our annual excursion into the world of swatting mosquitos and preparing for emergencies.
In the mean time, check out Radio Shack and see if you can get an omnidirectional antenna for your CB, and you may also need a powersupply to run it in the house. You can also put together an antenna on your own, and if you wish, send me an e-mail and I’ll be glad to tell you more about Ham radio. I’ve been in this long enough to recognize that someone on a CB might be a future ham.
