what length for quarter wave antenna for 42.6 MHz?
I am restoring an old emergency vehicle and am trying to be as accurate as possible in the details. The antenna is a quarter-wave “buggy whip” on a 6-inch stainless spring on a ball-mount. (The closest I cam come up with is one of those 102″ CB antennas, so I have to cut it down to proper size.)
The original radio frequencies used were centered around 42.6 MHz. What would be the proper length for the whip part? (From the top of that large spring to the ball on the tip of the antenna.)

TH — I’m just going for a “look.” It won’t actually xmit, so SWR not a problem. But curious — what is the “velocity factor?” Never heard of that.
Wavelength at 42.6 MHz is 7.0423 meters
So quarter wave would mean that the entire length including the spring should be 1.7606 meters (69.31 inches)
Now you already have 6 inches of spring so you need a 63.31 inch long antenna.
