what can I do or who can I call?I hear loudly a nieghbors cb or ham radio?
when I watch tv,a nieghbors (don’t know who and it is a congested part of town) cb/ham radio comes thru my suround sound system. It comes thru loud and clear. It drives me crazy!! what can I do?? please help..thank you for your time
Does the signal enter through the receiver itself or through the speakers? Listen to it using headphones. If you don’t hear it there, the signal is being picked up by the speaker cable and rectified through the speakers.
A) Try rerouting the speaker cable away from windows and other wires or devices that might be helping conduct and coupling the signal to your system.
B) If you are using the flat zip cable. Use the round shielded cable if your system and speakers work with it.
C) If using zip cable, Go to Radio Shack and get 2 100 picofarad (pF) ceramic disk capacitors (they come in pairs), catalog # 272-123 and 2 .001 microfarad (uF) disk capacitors, cat # 272-126. Put a 100 pF capacitor across the 2 terminals on the back of each speaker that connect the speaker to the speaker wire. Don’t worry, you’re not shorting anything out. This should act as a filter for removing the interference. If this doesn’t work, try the .001 uF capacitors instead.
You say it comes through loud and clear. Does this mean you can understand what is said? If it is clearly understood it could be a CBer. If you can tell it’s someone speaking but they kinda sound like a duck that’s inhaled some helium, it’s a ham. You can find who the Hams are in your area by going to www.fcc.gov, click on licensing and then on universal licecensing system. then select Amateur Radio. You can search the database of Hams in your area. They will help eliminate any radio frequency interference (RFI) they cause. CBers are unlicensed and don’t know much about it. You’ll have to look for antennas to find them. Note what you heard over your system and when you heard it. When talking to the operator, this will help determine if they are the cause.
