I want to hook up a linear amp to my cb radio?
I am new to this but not new to 12v electricity. I want to get my voice out as far as I can. At least to another state. I hear people every day from all states around me. I just haven’t heard any of them say how many watts they are pushing with there linear amp. Also does anyone know of a good place to get a good linear amp at? Thanks!
on eBay you can find plenty of linears for sale – just look for those that say they are designed for 10 meter (because eBay big brother, will not allow 11 meter (CB) amps to be sold) – but there is no practical difference of 10 meter to 11 meter
so a 10 meter amp will work correctly on CB
get about a 200 watt linear (no need for much higher – the difference between 200 watts and 500 watts is only about 1/2 of a ‘S’ unit – in other words, if you are putting 6 S units with 200 watts, the meter reading will only be about 6 1/2 S units with 500 watts *__* )
mobile use, get a 108″ steel whip (or for a shorter antenna, get a Wilson Trucker, or a K40 – so they will be able to handle the power)
for base use – get 2 antennas – a beam, and a cheap omnidirectional (that can handle 200 watts)
