WHICH BRAND IS BETTER : COBRA OR MIDLAND?
I was looking at getting a handheld cb radio (cobra hh38wxst or the midland 75-785) and i was wondering which brand would be better……i know there may be a dispute, but after getting mileage claims for both radios (there both 4 watts so is about 3 miles where i live) i needed to compare them…..the cobra looks waaay cooler (in my mind) but which one is tougher?…….also any ideas for battery life, and how high quality the internals are……
If you don’t mind spending the extra money, I would go with the Cobra. With both radios being 4 watts, the range is going to be the same. They both run on 9 AA’s with switchable hi/low power, so the battery life is going to be close. The 75-785 will probably outlast the HH38WXST, though, simply because it has less features. The quality of the internals is going to be about equal since they are both made China. As for toughness, I couldn’t really say. If you pull the battery covers off, the casing on both looks equally thick. The real advantages the Cobra has is the sound quality (Soundtracker technology) and the fact that it can operate off of an external DC power source. This means you can charge NiCad’s in the unit and/or operate it off the included car charger.
