know about old radios? Grundig 5005w?
Well, my grandpa had an old Grundig radio model 5005w. We have no info on it but we know its old and from germany. I tried to look it up online and was only able to find sites in german. and the ones I tried to translate weren’t much help. I love this old radio to pieces and want to learn more about it but we can’t find anyone who knows about old german radios. We’re wondering where to get replacement tubes, how much it’s worth now, and how much it costed back then, and just random facts about it. THANK YOU!!
The best things to try may be some of the “boat anchor” short wave publications and online help. (The radios are lovingly termed boat anchors as they weigh as much as one and is said if it’s beyond hope , it can still be used as a anchor :-)
It may not have been too much of a popular radio in the US hince lack of info in English. Best may be to research old Ham radio magazines of the day like QST published by ARRL (a ham radio group for the promotion and preservation of ham radio) as Hams sometimes used these rigs on the air to receive the person they were talking to.
Unfortuneately as a radio ages, it becomes unstable as the parts dry out and will not work correctly. I recommend before putting it back into service, finding someone in the area familiar with restoring radios to check the unit out.

Another thing is to ask these two companies for help….
THe first is the US distributor of grundig radios currently (they are still built in Germany) , the second is a long shot but may get you hopefully a sliver of info from the manufacturer…
