Who can Help with Problems with A.M. Radio Reception?

Hi, I live in the mountains. My place is surrounded by trees. I like to listen to a.m. talk shows but get very bad reception, with stations drifting each couple of minutes of listening. I have several radios; however, the only A.M. reception I get at all is with my old Sangean SG 622.FM/MW/SW. I need to pull in stations from about 350 miles + away. I bought a Terk Antenna. But that does not help much.

Would someone know of a radio that gives good a.m. reception? I checked customer reviews for a.m. radios on the net but the reviews were mixed..

Duh had about the best idea but short of a communications grade receiver, and a antenna as long as 1/2 wave of the Am broadcast band (Think football field long) it will be hard to keep a station perfectly listenable due to a very changing ionosphere

DXers (the ones who make a point of trying to receive from long distances) love shortwave radios such as Yaesu, Icom, Sangean, etc but for bang for the buck, many pick up the $60 RCA/Thomson Multimedia Super Radio which are considered powerhouses for AM reception and matched with the select-tenna Duh spoke of is used by many DXers to receive faint radio stations

However daytime reception will not get any better without getting the antenna higher and with a better ground. Also 350 miles is stretching very hard during daytime due to atmospheric noise.

Nighttime reception in the mountains I found to be pretty good however as I said, the Ionesphere affects the signal (the radio station’s signal is bounced back toward the earth that’s why the fades and such at night.. however for recption , I’ve never used a Super radio but own a few of the communications radios and with a homemade loop received many stations for hours on end at night with little or no fading
